Ellen Lee DeGeneres is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, producer, and LGBT activist. She starred in the popular sitcom Ellen from 1994 to 1998 and has hosted her syndicated TV talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003.

Ellen DeGeneres is secretly fighting emotional issues off screen, which threaten her marriage to Portia de Rossi.

In addition to her dark moments, a source told US magazine Globe that Ellen sometimes exhibits concerning mood swings, which are increasingly raising alarm bells.

Mood swings are rapid and often severe, fluctuations in ones emotional state, involving alternating between feeling of happiness and well-being and feelings of anger, irritability, or depression.

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

Mood swings are one of the classic signs of bipolar disorder, which is characterized by episodes of mania or hypomania, episodes of depression, and episodes of both known as mixed episodes. There are 2 main types of bipolar sickness: bipolar I and bipolar II.

An episode of mania can have signs like fast-talking, feeling active, being extremely talkative, engaging in risky behaviour, being on edge or irritable, needing less sleep than normal and being extra active than you commonly are.

A depressive episode may also include feeling sad or worthless, crying, lacking energy, feeling wiped out, having trouble in concentrating, issue in sleeping, eating either too much amount or not sufficient, thoughts of loss of life or suicide and losing pleasure in activities you once enjoyed.

Bipolar is diagnosed if you have had as a minimum one manic episode. You may also have had depressive or hypomanic episodes. Bipolar II is recognized while you have had at least one depressive episode lasting two weeks or more and one hypomanic episode that lasted at least 4 days, but never a manic episode.

Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder is some other mental health disorder that could be behind your persisent mood swings. here are other symptoms:

  • The mood swings are severe and variable and can last from a few hours to a few days

  • Impulsive and risky behaviour. For example, conducting unprotected intercourse or substance abuse

  • Extreme reactions to abandonment, whether it is actual otherwise you just think it's real. these reactions may also include depression, rage or panic

  • Regularly feeling empty or restless

  • Threatening suicide or engaging in self-harming behaviours like cutting

  • Having emotional, intense relationships with others that are characterized by way of extreme feelings about the person

  • Anger issues, that can include outbursts, inappropriate anger and an inability to control your temper
